Question by : Is there anything I should know about buying a laptop in China?
I’m leaving for Dalian, China in two weeks to study abroad for six months. My laptop is on its last leg, and I have extra scholarship money left over after covering the cost of attendance, so I’d like to use that to buy a new laptop. I’d like to buy a laptop while I’m still here in the states, but my university will not release those extra scholarship funds to me until I arrive in China, and so it seems I’ll have to buy it there.
Will the prices be significantly cheaper at all over there? I’ve been to China before and have bargained, but I’m not sure I should trust buying a computer from one of those places. Should I just buy one from a department store or electronics store, then? Will there be any compatibility issues when I bring it back to the states? Are there any reputable Chinese brands or should I stick with an American, Japanese, or Taiwanese brand?

Bad idea ! The warranty will be void once you take it out of China. The OS will be in Chinese if it was made for the Chinese market. You’ll need a power adapter once you bring it back here. The DVD drive won’t work here as China is a different region code.
I’d talk to someone at your college first, and explain your situation.
