Well, it depends on the purpose you are planning to use it for.
In general, I would recommend a popular brand like IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell or Apple.
In these cases you are on the good side on issues like reliability, quality and maybe rest warranty, since those vendors have good service, at least here in Europe. Another point is that these machines do not drop that much in price the moment you purchase them, meaning you could resell it and still be able to buy something else with the money :)

I am trying to allow the kids and I to just share one printer but my laptop doesn’t see the other printer although the network computer says it is sharing the printer.

Youll need to set up file and printer sharing. First youll need a router (wired or wireless, as long as their all connected). Then youll need to make sure your all on the same workgroup, then set up file and printer shring(should be in control paanel) then go on the laptop and print a test page(you may have to go into print options and choose your printer.)

I would like to build a laptop cooling stand. Should the fans I use be sucking air away from the laptop or blowing air onto the laptop? My laptop gets very hot and it needs strong cooling fans I think.

Michael what it needs is to stand on a flat surface as most do get hot but a metal sheet would be the best idea as it would work like a heat sink aluminium is the best material.

i have 2 laptops to sell for spares/repairs but want to get my personal data off them before selling – will removing/destroying the drives significantly affect the resell value? would it be better to get a hard drive caddy and get the data off without destroying the hard drive?

unless you are trying to sell the operating system along with the hard drives… just go ahead and format them. The only thing worth anything on the drives is the OS.. otherwise they are just drives..

How should I go about measuring for stitches. I would also like to make a flap but i can do that separately as a triangle.

Make a swatch about 4″X 4″ and see how many stitches are in an inch. That will let you know how many stitches you will have to cast on but get more as you have to have room for the sides. If you have trouble figuring out the amount e-mail me with the info.

I have a HP HSTNN-CB72 laptop that I bought over a year ago. I’ve searched on the net and not been able to find batteries that I can buy to put in my laptop.
Anybody know if I can buy a new battery and from where (in the UK)

As your laptop is fairly new, you should be able to get a replacement one quite easy, I would stay clear from cheap ones you might find on ebay or similar, as loads are imports from china and therefore might not be genuine and my not be safe, have heard of stories of cheap ones over heating and catching fire.
PC World or curries are a good start, or go onto HP website, they might have online shop or certainly they will advise where you should be able to buy one.
